1Ti 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
2Ti 4:22 The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen. <The second epistle unto Timotheus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Ephesians, was written from Rome, when Paul was brought before Nero the second time.>
Tit 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
Tit 3:15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. <It was written to Titus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Cretians, from Nicopolis of Macedonia.>
1Pe 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. Act 20:17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.
Act 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Acts 20:17 Paul calls for the elders of the church, singular at Ephesus.
Acts 20:18 The Ephesian elders come to meet with Paul.
Acts 20:18–35 Comprises the discourse of Paul to the Elders of the church at Ephesus.
Acts 20:28 He refers to the Ephesian church elders as overseers (επισκοπους) same word that is translated as bishop in the verses at the start of this study. The word translated here by “to feed” is used 11 times in the new testament and always refers to the duty of an elder to shepherd his flock. This word is always used in the sense of to rule, but to do so in the sense of a shepherd carring for his flock. Though not listed here the same greek word is used in Ephesians 4:11 and translated as pastor in our KJV bible. These are the verse in which it is used the numbers are from strongs concordance G4165:

Conclusion is that an elder in a baptist church is the same thing as a pastor. The word translated by overseer in reference to elders and pastors which is translated bishop is also the same office. Hence, elders are bishops which are pastors of churches. The heirarchial government as practiced in many denominations is unscriptural and unnecessary.
